OUR MISSION

The Oklahoma Single Parent Scholarship Program is on a mission to help low-income single parents fulfill their dreams of self-sufficiency through post-secondary education. With a bit of financial support and timely encouragement, eligible single parents — often holding down a job, raising children alone, struggling to make ends meet and often on the brink of dropping out — can earn life-changing degrees and escape poverty.

A BRIEF HISTORY STATEMENT

The Oklahoma Single Parent Scholarship Program (OSPSP) incorporated in central Oklahoma in 2016, spurred by the high rate of Oklahoma families headed by a single parent and the extremely high rates of childhood poverty in those families, especially those headed by a single mother. OSPSP has since awarded almost $300,000 in scholarships to 100+ single parents attending 10 colleges across central Oklahoma.

"By nearly any measure, college graduates outperform their peers who have only completed their high school degree. For example, the average graduate is 24 percent more likely to be employed and average earnings among graduates are $32,000 higher annually and $1.2 million higher over a lifetime."

"I was really worried about financial aid. It’s been a struggle to pay rent and the OSPSP scholarship helped me cover it. I also like the support safety net that the mentors provide as listeners and resources for us."
